Web Design - The Best Tried & True Fonts For Websites
Frequently when I am building a website after the customer has looked at a few revisions, the topic of conversation drifts to the fonts that should be used on the website. This is the time that the fun really starts to begin! Usually the customer has been browsing around Word on their machine and playing with a few fonts there. So the question is put, "Can we have ultra curly school boy graffiti font for all of the headings and...".
Stop right there! Go no further. The problem is that whilst this font might look stunning on your website, what will it look like when your customers visit your website? And here is the problem and it is preceded with a technical explanation.
When you open a website the style sheets dictate what fonts, or font families, should be used within the various areas of the webpage that you are opening. But all that this code does is to refer the browser to the list of font that you already have installed on your machine. So if you have installed ultra curly school boy graffiti on your machine then you will be able to see that font when you open the page. But, if this ultra fancy font is not installed on your machine, then the default will be used.
So to be safe, when planning what fonts to use on the various elements of the page it is safest to stick to just those fonts that are installed on the majority of machines and will appear roughly the same. Here we are looking at not only the different versions of Windows machines, but also Macs.
This means that the list of fonts that are compatible with the majority of users is very limited. There are plenty of sites that list most of them and allow you to see what they will appear as, but the choice is very limited.
Which is why we then get to a list of standard fonts that we see in use on sites time and time again. Arial, Times New Roman, Verdana, Garamond and so on.
Sadly, this list does mean that the fonts we get to play with are not that exciting, but if you want to be displaying the page as text, then that is the rule that we have to abide by. But, there are alternatives. For example, if you are designing banners, logos and other elements of the page then these can be created as images on your computer and this gives you the freedom to experience any font that you can find on the internet. The downside - well images are not accessible to search engines and accessible readers, so the content of the page cannot really depend on such techniques.
You could use graphics for headers and supply an alt attribute for search engines and those unable to read the graphics if you are desperate to use a fancy font. But, aside from this cheat, the best fonts to use when you are creating a website are those boring and frequently used fonts listed above.

How To Open A Free Google Web Site
Google has started offering limited free web hosting.
First off you must have a Google Gmail account.
I have two Gmail accounts and while I was signed into my main email I was researching Free Web Hosting for a personal project. I found several Free web hosts and I signed up for a two. They both said you will get a response in two business days after you join our forum. I do not quite understand what that is about.
Anyway I stumbled onto an article about a Google Free Web Site. I did a little bit more digging. Then when I did a search for "Google Web Hosting" on Google a web page opened up. I went ahead and built a test page and edited the page and saved it. Then I built another page and edited that one also. I linked them together, the link interface is the easiest linking I have ever done. Maybe I am just getting a little more link savvy.
The Google Page Creator interface to choose your web page design is also very simple and easy to use.
The pages use with my Google email address in the website address.

I found this interesting and wondered if I could rename it. I fumbled around and no such luck. Your first website will use the name of your Gmail account. I did find that I could build more websites. At this time Google will let you have 5 different website names including your first unchangeable one.
All of your website names will end in .googlepages.com.
Depending on what you want to do this is a very simple way to build a web site. In less than thirty minutes you can easily put a couple of pages up if you are familiar with a basic word processor.
You can build a blog for free at Blogger.com also but I think you can present and organize information much better on a simple website than on a blog where the latest post is what dominates.
For Beginning Web site classes this is awesome. I do not think these pages will rank highly on the search engines but I do not know.

Website Terms of Use Templates and Agreements
Please note that the information provided herein is not legal advice and is provided for informational and educational purposes only (and is current to te time this article was written). I've drafted and revised a few Terms of Use Templates / Agreements in my day and so I thought it would be useful to put some thoughts about what goes into these documents here in this blog. Be careful, however, when relying solely on other website's Terms of Use Templates as they may be tailored to the specific jurisdiction and business requirements of that specific website.
The bottom line is that the Terms of Use Agreement is a contract that your website users agree to by visiting and using your website. In addition to a Terms of Use Agreement, a typical website should also have a Privacy Policy and a Disclaimer. In this blog, I'll be discussing some of the more obvious things that will be contained in a Terms of Use Template / Agreement.
Introduction
First, the Terms of Use Agreement should specify that the user's use of the website is governed by the Terms of Use Agreement, Privacy Policy, Disclaimer, and any other relevant terms and conditions, policies, and notices which apply to the website or a specific section or module of the website. You may also want to identify the website and the party which owns/operates the website. Make these terms defined so that you can refer to them throughout the rest of your Terms of Use Agreement.
Accepting the Terms of Use
Second, the Terms of Use Agreement should specify that, by using the website, the user is agreeing to the Terms of Use (and if they don't, they should not be using the website anymore).
Revisions
Third, there should be some acknowledgment that users agree to any and all modifications, alterations, and updates of the Terms of Use (which become effective upon being posted on the website).
Trademark/Copyright
Fourth, if there are logos/designs which have been trademarked, there should be a provision in the Terms of Use agreement which makes note of this and warns of unauthorized uses. Same goes for copyright.
Website Use/Restrictions
Fifth, the user will acknowledge that they are responsible to protect their IDs and passwords (if applicable) and also that any compromises should be reported immediately. With respect to restrictions, users are generally prohibited from doing things like: posting or transmitting harmful or illegal content, interfering with the website's operation, trying to hack into pass-word protected areas, and taking actions that will create an unreasonably large load on the web site's infrastructure.
Depending on what your website does (e.g. does it have a forum? does it allow users to e-mail other users? does it allow users to post comments on blogs? does it allow users to submit content through articles? etc.), your restrictions on terms of use will need to take into account these specifics. That's where a standard terms of use template may not be sufficient. It may not anticipate everything you and your website need to be protected.
General
Finally, comes the general terms that typically are part of most contracts. These terms will include things like:
(1) The governing law for the interpretation, application, and enforcement of the Terms of Use is the jurisdiction of XXX,
(2) This is the entire agreement in respect of this subject matter,
(3) If any provision is severed, the rest of the Terms of Use Agreement survives, and
(4) The effective date.

What Should a Website Cost? What a Small to Mid-Sized Business Can Expect to Pay for a Good Website
One thing you find when you're an Internet marketing professional is that there is a huge discrepancy in what business owners think a website should cost. I am often astounded to discover that business owners think they can get a decent website built for a few hundred dollars. Maybe it's the 'big box' Internet service providers of the world advertising that they can get your business up and running with a 'quality website' for just a few bucks a month. Or maybe you heard that a friend of a friend got his done for less than 0, and that price is stuck in your head. Whatever it is, I am here to say that it's not realistic to budget just a few hundred dollars for one of the most important parts of your business. Or wise.
Back in the day, you'd pay thousands - even tens of thousands - of dollars on phone book ads for your business, wouldn't you? I've seen SMALL businesses that were paying upwards of K per year or more on phone book advertising. Insane! But that was your primary source of new business, so at the time it made sense. I guess. The good news is, your website has now replaced that medium for gaining new business, and is a hell of a lot less expensive. No printing, no delivery, no ad sales reps to pay - yeah, that'll save a few bucks. But although we are living in a virtual world, a good website doesn't come for free.
Having your website built is just like anything else in life. You get what you pay for. The bottom line is that websites - done right - take time. And time is money. Can you go out and get a website for a few hundred bucks? Maybe. But you'd better believe that it will be little more than an online brochure. And probably not a very nice one at that. 3. Ease of Communication. So you've attracted a potential client and your business looks interesting to them. Now what? Bathroom online design can help you create the bathroom that is just right for you. Online bathroom design means learning as much as you can about what designing the most functional and attractive bathroom really requires.

2. Bathroom Ventilation - bathroom online design should analyze bathroom moisture. Since a bathroom generates humidity and moisture, this airborne water can cause problems with the bathroom finishes. A properly-sized power ventilator can be installed that will pull moist air out of the bathroom to the outdoors. Ventilating fans sizes are indicated by how many cubic feet of air they can move each minute (cfm). Use a ventilating fan that will remove air from the bathroom to the outdoors about seven or eight times per hour. For example, a 6'x8'x8' bathroom equals 384 cubic feet, divide by 8 times per hour equals 48cfm size fan.
3. Bathroom Tile - if you are using bathroom tile and will have solid-color ceramic floor tile, use a different color tile to create a border around the bathroom floor. If you will use the same color tile for the floors and walls, select a different tile size for the walls or lay the wall tiles diagonally to create visual contrast. Use a different color grout between the tiles to make a more interesting look.
4. Bathroom Wall Decor - if your bathroom walls are soft or neutral colors, use colorful bath linens and bath mats to create a nice contrast. Good bathroom online design means the accessories such as towel rings and soap dishes should complement the materials, fixtures and colors used on the walls and floors. For example, do not use modern-looking chrome towel holders with antique brass faucets.
5. Bathroom Storage - plan how you'll use the bathroom wall space. Having shelves or cabinets over the toilet, using corner shelves and placing towel bars above one another increase your available storage space. A medicine cabinet with mirror can hold grooming supplies, medicine and toiletries. An attractive combination sink and vanity and a shower caddy in your shower can provide additional bathroom storage.
